Amma! ;-)

Amma is here, tonight, in Dallas!! Go see her. You will never forget this experience, I promise! We are very lucky to have her here in our city, as many people travel hundreds or thousands of miles to receive her blessing. Services this morning and evening at the Hotel Intercontinental ;-)

More from assignment numero cuatro....

Current assignment (self-portraits) calls for some metaphorical shots, meaning that the pictures aren't of me, but rather things that symbolize me or are important to me.

And some more metaphorical shots.... If you or anyone you know might be interested in volunteering with hospice, email me and I can tell you about some amazing opportunities! It has truly been a life-changing experience.... and I would love to share this work with other people ;-)

Wait.......

Wait.... did I just take pics of myself with a green clay mask on....?! Has someone slipped me something? ROFL Maybe this self-portrait thing will be more fun than I thought ;-P

5:53am....

Success!! First part of assignment número cuatro is complete. I have broken the ice with a 5am shoot. Title? Insomnia. Seriously just rolled right out of bed after being awake for awhile and took the shots. Not sure I'll post them LOL but boy are they honest, and do they ever show sleeplessness in action ;-P

The Familiar in an Unfamiliar Way

Our third assignment is called Familiar in an Unfamiliar Way. The purpose of this project is to take photographs from unusual points of view, or to pair familiar items that wouldn't normally cross paths. The later aspect has definitely been more challenging, but an idea came to me Monday night. My original thought was to find a way to make a bouquet of cigarettes, then baby's breath came to mind. Not a common pairing, cigarettes and flowers, but I found baby's breath to be even more fitting for this shot, as we most certainly don't associate baby's, or the breath of a baby with cigarettes.

City Street

This isn't a recent shot, but has come to mind several times since we started talking about shadow and light in class. I like the the long shadow of the parking meter, and the way the street lights alternate.

First Assignment

I got my first assignment for photo class earlier this week. The focus (hardy har har, no pun intended!!) was depth of field, as well as a couple of other techniques including blur, pan, and stop action. Included below are my two favorites from the bunch. Blur wasn't difficult to get as long as I set the correct shutter speed and aperture. Panning on the other hand provided more of a challenge (and much more entertainment for passers by LOL).

Our next assignment is Light and Shadow. Since it's hot as hades blazes outside I'm focusing on shadows found at night. So far so decent I guess you could say! Will see what else I can come up with over the weekend for this second assignment ;-)

Blurring

Panning

One melted thigh later.... ;-P

One partially melted thigh later.... I have completed my first assignment, YaY!! Note to self: do not set up shots that require me to have any contact with cement. Stop action, blurring, panning, and depth of field.... cool stuff. Panning is so my favorite!! Of course the one I like *would* be more difficult ;-P

Owning the Nerdiness....

First Day of Class!!

It's my first day of photography class!! Wish this nerdy girl some luck ;-)
